Complaints and disputes with an online casino
Most disputes with online casinos fall into a handful of patterns: a withdrawal that sits pending, identity checks that drag on, a bonus that gets "voided", or an account closed without warning. Who wins such a dispute often depends less on who is right than on who kept better records. This guide explains how to prepare, which order to escalate in, and what public authorities in Slovenia realistically can and cannot do. It is general guidance, not legal advice. For the wider legal background see our responsible gambling page.
Start with evidence
Begin collecting evidence the moment something feels off, not when the argument has already escalated. Keep:
- screenshots of your balance, deposit and withdrawal history and any error messages, with the date and time visible;
- transaction IDs from the casino cashier and from your bank or e-wallet statement;
- the version of the terms and bonus rules in force at the time — terms change, so save the page as a PDF;
- chat transcripts and emails with support; download or capture the chat before the window closes;
- a short timeline: when you deposited, played, requested the withdrawal, sent documents and what you were told.
Without this file, every later step turns into your word against theirs.
The escalation ladder
- Operator support. Describe the problem calmly by chat or email and ask which rule they believe was broken or what they still need. Many cases end here, especially identity checks. Tips on reaching support are on our support page.
- A formal written complaint. If the answer is unsatisfactory, send a written complaint (template below), ask for acknowledgement and a reply within a reasonable time.
- The body or procedure named under the operator's licence. The footer and the terms should say which dispute body or procedure applies under the operator's licence. Follow its instructions; such bodies generally expect proof that you went to the operator first.
- Your payment provider. For card payments, some banks allow a transaction dispute. Whether it applies to you, with what deadlines and odds, depends on your bank and the facts — ask them.
What Slovenian supervision does — and where it stops
The Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS) supervises games of chance under the Gaming Act (ZIS). It bans the organisation of games without a concession, and a court can order internet providers to restrict access to such sites. That is a supervisory role, not a representative one. With an operator that holds no Slovenian concession, do not count on Slovenian supervision to resolve a dispute about your money. At the time of writing we could not confirm Spassino as a Slovenian concession holder — the list is public on the Ministry of Finance pages (gov.si – games of chance), so check it yourself. FURS publishes information on illegal gambling on its games of chance pages. Readers outside Slovenia should check what their own regulator does for players.
Typical dispute triggers
| Situation | Usual cause | Your move |
|---|---|---|
| Withdrawal stuck | Unfinished identity check or an active bonus | Ask exactly which document or condition is missing |
| Bonus voided | Maximum bet exceeded or an excluded game played | Request the exact rule and the time of the alleged breach |
| Account closed | Duplicate accounts, mismatched details or self-exclusion | Ask for written reasons and payout of the balance |
| Deposit missing | Delay at the payment provider | Send the transaction ID and your statement |
Bonus and betting rules are explained on our terms page and in the Spassino review.
Complaint letter template
Subject: Formal complaint – account [username]
Dear Sir or Madam,
On [date] I requested a withdrawal of [amount] € (transaction ID [ID]). It has not been processed to date. In a chat on [date] I was told that [summary of the reply].
Please tell me in writing within [number] days the exact reason for holding the payment, the clause of your terms you rely on, and which documents you still need. If the reason has been resolved, please process the withdrawal.
I attach screenshots, a transaction statement and the chat transcript. Please confirm receipt of this complaint.
Kind regards,
[full name], [account email]
Replace the bracketed parts with your details. Keep it short, factual and polite — a letter like that is easier to pass on to the next level if needed.
What does not help
- opening new accounts or using someone else's details to get round a restriction;
- publishing staff members' personal data;
- sending the same message every few minutes — log the dates and wait for the reply;
- paying "recovery agents" who promise to guarantee your money back.
When a dispute starts affecting you
Money disputes are stressful and can push people into new deposits to "cover" the gap. If you notice that pattern, take a break or self-exclude. Free international online support is available from Gambling Therapy, and Gamblers Anonymous lists mutual-help meetings. The homepage has the full overview of this site.
