Mastercard at Spassino: deposits, payouts and issuer rules
Mastercard sits next to Visa in almost every casino cashier, and for the person paying the experience is nearly the same: card number, amount, confirmation in the banking app. The differences are in the background — in how your issuing bank treats gambling payments and in whether the operator's payment provider can push money back to the card. This page covers both, without pretending to know limits or speeds that only the operator can set. Methods and limits depend on your account — check the cashier.
For readers in Slovenia: FURS supervises games of chance under the Games of Chance Act (ZIS), and only concession holders may organise them. At the time of writing we could not confirm Spassino as a Slovenian concession holder; the list is on the Ministry of Finance pages, so check it before you pay.
Making a deposit with Mastercard
Choose Mastercard in the cashier, type the amount in euro and the card data, then approve the payment with Mastercard Identity Check (the 3-D Secure step your bank shows in its app or by SMS). If the account currency is euro and the card is a euro card, no conversion happens. Keep the confirmation screen; if the balance does not update, that screenshot is what support will ask for.
- Use a card in your own name. Paying with someone else's card is a quick way to have an account frozen.
- Prepaid Mastercard products may be refused by the operator or by the card programme itself.
- Credit cards can attract cash-advance fees from the issuer on gambling transactions — ask your bank.
Withdrawing after a Mastercard deposit
Mastercard supports a payout mechanism that lets merchants send money to cards, but whether a given casino and a given issuer use it is not something we can confirm from the outside. In practice you will meet one of three situations: the payout goes back to the card, the deposit amount is refunded to the card and the rest goes to your bank account, or the cashier offers only bank transfer and e-wallets for withdrawal. Find out which one applies before you deposit, not after you win.
As with every method, verification comes first. Identity document, proof of address and sometimes proof of card ownership (a photo with the middle digits hidden). Upload these early; our withdrawal walkthrough explains why the first payout is always the slowest.
| Topic | Mastercard in practice |
|---|---|
| Deposit | Commonly available, confirmed via 3-D Secure |
| Withdrawal | Depends on operator and issuer; bank transfer is the usual fallback |
| Typical snag | Issuer blocks gambling merchant codes |
| Useful tool | Spending caps and gambling blocks in your banking app |
When another method makes more sense
If your bank blocks gambling on cards, do not look for workarounds; take it as information. A bank transfer is slower but works both ways, and Visa follows very similar rules if you hold a card from another bank. E-wallets are another route, with their own verification and bonus exclusions.
